Bruce's Journal

Bruce Slutsky was born in New York City in 1949. I retired six years ago after working as a Science/Engineering Librarian at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark for 25 years. I was married to Karen until she passed away in February 2021. I have a son Lee who is now 35 years old. I am very much interested in the popular music of the 1960s, especially Bob Dylan and the Beatles. I am interested in rock and roll radio. I am an enthusiastic fan of the New York Mets.

1964-65 Worlds Fair Revisited

Today we went to the Queens Museum which offered a tour of the site of the 1964-65 Worlds Fair in Flushing Meadows Park. We started out in the Museum and walked over to the site of the New York State Pavillion. This structure is in disrepair but we met some people there trying to restore it. There is a big map of New York State on the floor which is in very bad shape. They received some start-up money from the National Endowment for the Arts, but millions of dollars will be needed to completely restore the building. From there we walked over to the Hall of Science, another building that was contructed in 1964. It brought back memories.

Anonymous said...: That's such a sad story. I too remember the days of the fair. I could see it from my bedroom window when I lived on 108th Street. I remember the glory of the NYS building and the big map. What a shame that it is in such disrepair.; April 29, 2007 at 8:34 AM
