Bruce's Journal

Bruce Slutsky was born in New York City in 1949. I retired six years ago after working as a Science/Engineering Librarian at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark for 25 years. I was married to Karen until she passed away in February 2021. I have a son Lee who is now 35 years old. I am very much interested in the popular music of the 1960s, especially Bob Dylan and the Beatles. I am interested in rock and roll radio. I am an enthusiastic fan of the New York Mets.

Hot Pastrami on Rye at Bens

I had a craving for a pastrami sandwich today. The Kosher deli in my neighborhood closed about 12 years ago since Flushing became more Asian and less Jewish. So, we took a short drive to Ben's in Bayside. From there we went to Barnes and Nobles where we bought Lee a basketball book. Then, it was on to Crocheron Park where we took a walk along Little Neck Bay. My next pastrami sandwich will be on Dec 1 at Bens in midtown Manhattan where Alan B, a regular reader of this journal, will be the happiest man on the face of the earth since his "next event" will become a reality.

Anonymous said...: Funny you should mention pastrami. It's not something one usually finds on menus here in MN. However, we were at a tiny eating place in a tiny town near us, and they had pastrami! So Dave tried it. I had meatloaf. I'm sure his pastrami was not nearly as good as anything I've had in Brooklyn! Those were the "good old days."; October 30, 2007 at 12:12 PM
