Newark Bears Game today

Since the NJIT baseball team plays at Riverfront Stadium in Newark, NJIT staff gets free tickets to see the Newark Bears, a minor league team in the Atlantic League.  The teams are not affiliated with major league baseball, so the players are trying to look good for any major league scouts.  Today's game started at 11 AM to accommodate day camps.  I knew what to expect when I was one of maybe 10 people in the ball park not affiliated with a day camp.  The Bears scored 7 runs in the first inning and held on to beat the York Revolution 7-3.  After the game I went to work.

Regular reader of journal Alan Berman reminded me that in the 1930s and 40s there was another Newark Bears team that was a top farm club of the Yankees.  Back then there was also the Newark Eagles of the Negro League.
