Dictionary Definition of Brunch

This is from dictionary.com :

Brunch - a meal that serves as both breakfast and lunch.

There is nothing in this definition stating that a brunch must be eaten at a fancy restaurant.  Many people on the weekend wake up very late and will eat their first meal at about 11 AM and call it brunch.  Yours truly is an early riser and eats breakfast before 7 AM.  If I get hungry at about 10:30 I can go into Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks or an inexpensive diner and call my meal brunch.

Yes, there are fancy restaurants that on a Sunday will serve brunch from 10 AM - 3 PM and include delicacies such as lox.  So there can be an expensive brunch and a cheap brunch.

I just saw your brunch post. I didn't mean to offend you and I hope I didn't.

But, if you want to know why everyone was laughing at the post, it was because you can't have brunch at Dunkin Donuts. I still laugh every time I repeat it!

Forget the literal dictionary definition. The word has a certain meaning in the real world. It does not mean going to a fast food donut shop. It sounds comical when you say it.

Please don't be offended, have a sense of humor about it. it was funny and no one meant any harm by laughing over it.

I am a regualr reader of the blog and have been for a long time.

I suppose you could have brunch in a diner, but not a donut shop!
