I usually write journal entries for games that attend, but tonight's Subway Series opener was a delight. The season started very poorly at 5-13 amid the team's financial problems with the Bernie Madoff scandal. Injuries to key players certainly help, but Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins have certainly pressed the right buttons.
R.A. Dickey recovered from a few poor performances to pitch 6 good innings holding the Bronx Bombers to one run from a Mark Texeira home run. Daniel Murphy's homer in the 6th inning was the decisive run for the Amazins. I was impressed by the trio of Mike O'Connor, Jason Isringhausen, and Francisco Rodriguez who retired all 9 batters. It is quite pleasing to see Frankie to get 15 saves in a row after overcoming some personal problems last year.
